[Our Own Correspondent]. High tides. Port of Westport: a.m. p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 11.56 WESTPORT, Nov. 29. The Karepo and Kaimai both sailed for Auckland on Saturday. The Kaitoa arrived yesterday from Motueka. •Mrs. T. Ellis and her son Mason, of Greymouth, have been visiting Westport as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. Robinson, Bentham Street. Mr. Ken Grange, of Upper Hutt arrived from Christchurch yesterday. Private P. Veale on furlough, who has been visiting Mrs. P. Connelly returned to Hokitika' on Saturday. Mr. Dalziell, of Waikato, is visiting this district. Mr. K. Boon, representing Sharlands of Christchurch, is on his customary business visit to Westport. Master P. Nevin, a pupil of St. Bede’s College, ChristcKUrch, arrived home for Christmas vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fisher, both formerly) of Westport, arrived from Christchurch yesterday. Mr. Rotheram. of the King Country arrived from Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Askew, of Motueka', celebrated their golden wedding at the residence of their daughter, Mrs. Cyril Howard, Westport, on Saturday evening. Other members of„the familv present were two daughters, Mrs. I. Tebav and Mrs. K. Goodman, a son, Mr. M. Askew (Wellington), and three grandchildren. The rooms . were beautifully decorated with golden flowers and Mr. and Mrs. Askew received many presents. The death took place at the O’Conor Home last evening of Mrs. Eliza Stephen, one of the pioneer residents of the district. Deceased who was 85 years of age, was a native of Gloucestershire, England and came to New Zealand in 1874. Surviving the deceased are two sons, Robert, Orowaiti, Harry, Westport; and four daughters, Mrs. Corbett and Mrs. Bradley, Hamilton. Mrs. A. Franklyn, Greymouth, and Mrs. R. Hickford, Westport. There are also grandchildren and great grandchildren. The late Mrs. Stephen was a great worker on patriotic bodies and generously gave her help and assistance for any worthy object. The sympathy of” the community will be extended to the members of her family in their bereavement. I

The women’s branch of the Westport Labour 'Party held their monthly meeting and there was a good attendance of members over which Mrs. I. Ryan presided. It was decided that a letter be forwarded to Mrs. Farrell in connection with the children’s play-ground, stating that the branch would co-operate and that Mesdames I. Ryan and S'. Collins would be delegates from the branch and would give full support to the project. The committee congratulated Mrs. Hawkins on having received word that her son was being repatriated from Germany after having been a prisoner of war for nearly four years. Because of many requests the committee has decided to run card parties on Tuesday nights and owing to Christmas falling on the usual card night it was decided to hold cards on the Monday nights, December 27, and January 3. Semnle, Hon. R. Eddy, Mr. P. Dowse, Hon. T. Brindle, ‘ Mr. J. O. Johnson; Divisional Area Officer, Mrs. Irene Ryan. In the 'Pacific broadcast from the “boys overseas” yesterday morning, was oiip from Charl’e Robertson, son of the Maylor and Mavoress of Westport, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Robertson.
