[Our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, Nov. 29. Mr. W. Penington has returned from Christchurch. Miss A. Paul of Wellington arrived 'to-day on a visit to her sisters at Reef ton. Mrs. T. Williams returned from Christchurch to-day. The Reefton branch of the Labour Party will hold a meeting in the Miners’ Union Office on Wednesday evening at 7.30. The Railway Department had a work train gathering up rails and sleepers between Reefton and Stillwater to-day. Extensive repairs have been carried out on the line during the past few months, several lengths having been relaid and sleepers renewed to cope with extra traffic. Next week a morning goods train will leave Westport every day in addition to the regular services already operating. At the monthly meeting of the Inangahua Hospital Board Messrs W. Clayton. J. Discaciati, B. Mirfin, J. F. Coghlan were present and in the absence of the chairman, Mr. Clayton was voted to the chair. The Department of Health advised details .of payments to be made to Hospital Board for treatment of patients from the armed forces. The secretary of Burkes’ Creek Miners’ Union, Reefton, wrote asking that the Board consider the purchase of a motor ambulance for use in the district, and advising that the Union would contribute £1 per head for senior male members, and also asking for a public meeting to further the project. The requests were granted. Mr. T. H. Langford, Transport Licensing Authority, advised that he was in communication with the Minister of Health re the release of a motor ambulance which might be suitable to the Board. Cashmere Sanatorium aavised the admission of an Inangahua patient to the institution, while Canterbury Hospital Board advised that an Inangahua patient had been admitted to Christchurch Hospital. Dr. Wicken Medical Superintendent reported: Admitted 39, births 7, discharged 28, in patients 30, X-rays lb. Matron Whisker reported ,wr Rands has been on relieving duty, while Sister Quinn would return to duty on December 14 after completing a course of special training. Sister Duncan was also relieving. New lockers were needed for the wards, and also new furniture for the maids dining. room. The section next door to the hospital needed cleaning up. Mr. DiScaciati moved, Mr. J- Coghlan seconded that the County Council be asked to make available a lorry for the cleaning up of the section. —Carried. Mr. Discaciati for the Visiting Committee, reported that nothing further had been done in the matter of cleaning the section near the laundry. It was resolved that the County Council be approached re the section near the laundry, and that quotations for new lockers be obtained. Mr. Mirfin moved and Mr. J. Coghlan seconded that a special- meeting of the Board be held to consider Maternity Annexe additions when a report from the Denartment of Health came to hand.—■ Carried.
