LOur Own Correspondent], REEFTON. Nov. 28. Mrs. C. Barrett left for Christchurch yesterday. Mr. and Mrs.’ N. Bolitho visited Christchurch for the races. Mr, A. Winchester has arrived to spend a holiday with his brother. Mr. S. Williams left by rail-car for Christchurch yesterday. At the monthly meeting of the Inangahua County Council, Cr. Hempseed presided. Also present were Crs. B. Mirfin, T. Watson, W. J. Duff, J. Coghlan. and W. Clayton. An apology was received from Cr. F. W. Archer. Correspondence was received from the following: J. Patterson and Son, L. E. Morgan, Hannan 'and, Seddon, R. (L. Donaldson and W. J. Barry, notifying sales of prooertv and asking for amendment to the rolls. —Rolls amended. L. E. Morgan, forwarding application for prospecting license by George Saunders, portion of which included the Black-water-Waiuta Road.—Resolved to offer no objection. G. Thomson, re control of Maruia Cemetery.—Decided to spend £3 on improvements. Inspector of Housing Construction, re land offered for housing at Reefton. —Received. Minister of Rehabilitation, re improvement at Maruia Springs.—Received, Valuer-General re provisions of Lands Sales Act. — Received. Mrs. M. A. Hunt, asking permission to connect her premises, Vicky Street, with town water and services.—Permission granted. Superintendent, Christchurch Fire Brigade, re trailer pump hose.—Referred to local brigade. District Engineer, P.W.D. asking for report on general conditions of rural roads. — Received and Clerk’s reply endorsed. Miss M. Leggoe, asking that drainage to her property at Soldiers’ Flat be attended to. Greymouth County Engineer, re access to lands in Upper Grey Valley. Cr. Blackadder moved that the. County co-operate with Grey County in approaching the Government for a vrant. Seconded by Cr. Coghlan and carried. J. Patterson and Son, asking consent to subdivision of Section 106, Block XI, Mawheraiti. —Resolved to approve of sub-division. Under Secretary, Mines Department, re access to Royal Syndicate Mine at Rain v Creek.—Received. W H. Betts, re condition of suspension bridge.—Resolved to effect repairs. J. K. Patterson, for Alexander Mines Ltd., application for reduction in rent to 2s 6d per acre for a period of 1 year from January I, 1944.—Granted. Chairman, Soil Conservation and Rivers’ Control Council re catchment areas, etc.— Cr. Clayton moved that the Council object to the inclusion of Inangahua in' the Grey district. This was carried. The secretary, Big River Mines, drawing attention to the state of the Reefton-Big River Road. —Referred to engineer. Roval Coal Syndicate, asking for the use of a pile driving plant for the erection of a bridge over the Inangahua River at Rain-' Creek—Request. granted. Several residents of Dunn and Ranft Streets, drawing attention to dust nuisance. —Decided to ask lorry drivers to reduce sneed on the road. Secretary, Reefton District High School Committee, advising that the learners’ swimming pool would be opened on Friday afternoon at 2.30 o’clock. —■ Cr. Duff was appointed to represent the County. W. J.. Humphries, re approach to dwellings in Shiel Street. — Referred to engineer for attention. J. K Patterson for E. V. Wallis, asking for reduction in rent to 2s 6d per acre from January 1, 1943 to December 31, 1943, over claim license No. 8775.—Recommended. H. Farrell, re flooding of his land at Soldiers’ Creek. Referred to engineer to confer with Mr. Farrell. W. Harvey and others, re tar sealing of footpath on Upper Broadway.—Decided to recommend to the Highways’ Board that Upper Broadway be tar sealed and the engineer be asked to attend to footpaths. Hannan and Seddon re GreyRiver Dredging Coy’s agreement with the Council. —Agreement approved. It was resolved that Mr. Williams (County Engineer) be paid £25 for overtime work on Mirfin s bridge. The reports of the Health Inspector, Traffic Inspector, and County Engineer were read and adopted. On the motion of Cr. Coghlan it was decided that the bridge on Pascoes Road be repaired. Cr. F. W. Archer forwarded a report on the Local Bodies’ Conference at Christchurch. He I had stressed the need for afforestation in the district. On the motion of Crs Blackadder and Clayton it was decided that the Council ask the cooperation of the teaching staffs m schools in a campaign to stop the lighting of fires on . the hills around Reef ton, and that the police be asked to assist in this. On the motion of Crs. Clayton and Coghlan it was decided that some sections on the Rive Reserve at Reefton be leased to the Inangahua Hospital Board. It ,Yh S dec’ded to draw the attention of the Highways’ Board to the need for-tar sealing Mawheraiti township and to the state of the Reefton-Maruia Road near Crushington. It was decided to write to the Railways Department and Highways’ Board re erosion at Rotokohu.
