Miss R. Ward left on Saturday for Wellington. Mrs. M. Bettell returned to Christchurch on. Saturday. Mr. T Stringer, Transport Department’s inspector, Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth. From his prisoners’ camp in Gerwhere he was accorded a tribute bv the enemy, when his decoration was made known, Sergeant J. D. Hinton, V.C., has written to his sister, Mrs. M. Pupich, of Lyell,. expressing his wish to be remembered to all of his friends, especially on the West Coast. He acknowledges receipt of letters and parcels, trusting that he may later meet the senders. His post card concludes: “Well, Nell, I will be wanting a good ‘tuck in,’ so look out-’’ The card is dated August 15. Many friends throughout the West Coast and in Otago will learn with deep regret of the death of Mr. Richard. Fraher. which occurred suddenly at his residence. Karoro. on Saturday evening. A native of Greymouth, and in his 71st year, the late Mr. Fraher was formerly a wellknown official of the Bank of New Zealand, which he joined here in his youth, serving later for several years as Teller at Hokitika, whence he preceded. to Otago over 40 years ago. He was successively manager of the branches at Ranfurly and Naseby, retiring in 1931. With his wife and family he then took up residence in Dunedin, and two years ago they came to live in Greymouth. A man of energetic and upright character, the late Mr. Fraher took a practical interest in the gold mining industry throughout his term in Otago, and he enjoyed the high esteem of all who knew him. Besides his wife he leaves a family of six. these being two sons, Richard (N.Z.E.F. on furlough from the Middle East), and James (Christchurch), and four daughters, Mrs. R. Berry and Miss Bridie Fraher (Christchurch), and Misses Cecily and Made- | line Fraher (Greymouth). He is also survived by his sister Miss Mary Fraher (Greymouth), and there are' five grandchildren. The funeral following Requiem Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, takes place tomorrow morning.
