ON BOUGAINVILLE Americans with Tanks HEAVY FIGHTING. [Aust. & N.Z. Press Assn.] (Rec. 6.30) WASHINGTON, Nov. 28. United States troops with tanks, have made a new landing on the west coast of Bougainville Island, in the Northern Solomons. They landed .on Tuesday last, at Piva River, three miles south of the Marines’ original landing point on Empress Augusta Bay, to which the Marines came on November 1. The new landing forces were shelled by Japanese seventy-five millimetre guns, on Magine Island near Empress Augustra Bay.
