Canada’s Big Gift

SOME GOES TO N.Z.

(Rec. 9.45.) OTTAWA, May 12. Canada, under the gift to Britain arrangement made last year, gave Britain 689,000,000 dollars’ worth of munitions and 311,000,000 dollars’ worth of foodstuffs and raw materials, but the actual shipment during the gift period totalled 1,440.000.000 dollars, said the Finance Minister (Mr. Hsley) in the Commons. Of shipments to Britain, supplies valued at 61,000,000 dollars were re-shipped to Russia, including tanks, armoured vehicles, shells, ammunition base metals, and an additional 71,000,000 dollars’ worth of mechanical transport transferred to New Zealand and Australia and other parts of the sterling area.
