Mr. A. Satchwell, Inspector of Health at Westport, has received notice of transfer to Timaru. He will be reolaeed at Westport by Mr. A. E. G. Knight, of Hokitika, who will be replaced by Inspector McEwen, of Chj-istchurcl).

The death has occurred, as the result of a seizure of Mr. Elliot Leslie Thomson, aged 65 years, states a Press Association message. Mr. Thomson was manager at Wairoa for Williams and Kettle for 28 years and later controlled the managership of Hawke’s Bay Farmers, a position which he held up to his death. He was Chairman of Directors of the “Wairoa; Star,’’ W.M. and Trustee of Lodge' Waikaremoana, and a South African War veteran. He also filled a number of other positions.

The presentation of the prize in the annual essav competition for student nurses, won by Nurse P. Hanley, was made by the President (Miss N. Moffat) at a, meeting of the Greymouth Registered Nurses Association on Tuesday. Miss Moffatt expressed regret that Miss Defeur. who had won a similar competition for maternity nurses could not be presented with her prize as she had left tne district. She added that Miss Defeui had been the second nurse from tne Maternity Annexe at the Grey Hospital to top New Zealand m the State examinations, the first being Sister P. Simons, who was still on the staff. 1

The funeral of the late Miss Catherine Ann Morris, of Reefton, took place yesterday morning after Requiem Mass, which was celebrateo by Rev. Father O’Brien.. Rev. Father Nolan was present in the sanctuary. Father O’Brien said the prayers at the graveside. The funeral was a representative one from tn e district. Officials of the Morris-Vale Pyramid Collieries were nail-bearers, Messrs Alec McKenzie, Cecil Curtis, Garth Richards and Robert Irving. The deceased, with her sisters was one of the proprietresses of the Maruia Hot Springs and Hostel and will* be greatly missed by the travelling public there. Her cheerful and thoughtful disposition had won her many friends all over the Dominion. Six weeks ago she had a sudden illness while at the hostel, and was removed to her home at Reefton. She leaves four sisters, Mrs M. J. Duncan (Wellington), Ellinor, Cecilia (0.8. E. and Sarah Teresa (president of the Lady Galway Guild and W.W.S.A., Reefton). all of Reefton, and two brothers, John A. Morris (Carterton) and W. J. Morris (Reefton)..
