- STOPPAGE INCREASE (Rec. 12.56) SYDNEY, Nov. 18 Reports from New South Wales coalfields show that more miners were on "strike to-day than at any one time since the introduction of the National Security (Coal Control) Regulations to prevent unauthorised stoppages. . , t . This had its sequel to-night when the Federal Attorney General, Dr. Evatt, announced that th e Commission of Inquiry has been set up to make an immediate- investigation into the causes of recent stoppages in the coal industry in New South Wales. Dr. Evatt declared that, in the interests of Australia and of the war effort, as well as of the coal industry itself, stoppages should cease. The Commission’s first sitting will be to-morrow.
