Mr. F. L. Turley left for Christchurch on Tuesday.
Mrs. M. M. Dreaver, M.P., left yesterday for Hokitika and will return to Christchurch 'to-day. Aircraftman E. E. Creagh, arrived yesterday on a holiday visit to his mother Mrs E. Creagh, Hokitixa.
A London cablegram states that the late Mr. R. S. Forsyth (N Z. Meat Board) left an estate of £7,365.
A Washington cablegram announced that Mrs. Roosevelt had returned from England by air. Miss J. Lindop returned by Monday’s express from a holiday visit to Opua, Bay of Islands. Miss M. O. Pickering, postmistress at Kotuku, will take ’up her new position at the Greymouth Chief Post Office on Thursday.
Miss F. C. Orr, of the staff of the Wellington Telegraph Exchange, has been transferred to the Greymouth Exchange. She was formerly of Greymouth.
Miss Florence Northcroft, who has been staying with her parents at Wataroa, returned to Christchurch last night. She will shortly commence her maternity training in Wellington.
A motion of regret at the death' of the Hon. H. T. Armstrong was passed at last evening’s meeting of the Grey Electric Power Board. The chairman (Mr W. Clayton) said that in Mr Armstrong the people had lost a great friend.
The Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) has announced that Her Excellency, Lady Newall, has consented to accept the appointment as titular head of the women’s units in the Armed Forces and Emergency Reserve Corps. Her Excellency will hold the following appointments:— Commandanb-in-Chief of the Women s Royal New Zealand Naval Service, Commandant-in-Chief of the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps, Com-mandant-in-Chief of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, Commandant-m-Chief of the Women’s Civil Defence Services.
