CONSCRIPTION POLL

CANADIAN PREMIER’S APPEAL. OTTAWA, April 26 Mr Mackenzie King broadcast a final appeal to Canadians to vote “Yes” in Monday’s manpower plebiscite, wherein the Government is asking the voters to release it from the campaign pledge in 1940, promising no conscription of men for military service outside the Dominion. Mr King said that conscription was not the issue, adding the sole purpose of the plebiscite is to obtain for the Government a perfectly free hand hi dealing with the Question. Over 4,00,000 persons are expected to vote. Half-a-million members of the armed forces voted during the past week.
