DOMINION NEWS

C.O. MEDICAL STUDENTS DUNEDIN, March 18. At the University Council meeting, the Chancellor stated that the large number, of conscientious, objectors among medical students was wrong. Tnere were only five, three of whom had joined the University Medical Corps, only two declining service. These two had their appeals allowed, but refused any service. However, he understood that the latest E.P.S. regulation would bring them automatically into service. The Dean of the Medical Faculty wrote as follows to the Council: While the Faculty realises that there is no legal power to exclude such students from the National Medical School, it suggests that students holding such views be not in future included in those selected for second-year admission.”

The Dean added it was unfair that such students should be free to earn high wages diuring the long vacation, while those with normal consciences served at military pay.
