LOur Own Correspondent. A very successiui tniertammen,. was staged m the Drums' ria l -n ’mursuav nignt, when the VV.Lua. Drama Circle presented the one-ace play "Druids king,' ueiore a large ana appreciative audience. The proceeds were in aid of tne local Pmnket Society, wnicn woulci beiieiiL consideramy by the effort. Tne play was produced by Mrs S. Braithwaite, the cast being as ioi.ows: Mis Marsden (Mrs B. Smith), nil's Preece (Mrs R. Johnson), Ellie Preece iM.s. M. Mann), Marianne (Miss Norm.. Tyson), Concordia Blytn _ (Miss M. Tyson), Leila Standish (Mrs J. Martin). Ruth Wylhe (mis J. Smith), Harriet Biggin tMrs J. Braithwaite). Items were tendered oy Dr. and Mfs E. H. Densem, Misses M. HaiLday, M. Gillaiy, M. Mann, anti Mr a. Airns. Mesdames R. Thompson, A. Aims and J. Hewison were the accompanists. An excellent supper , was Serve.; by the ladies of the Piunnet Committee. Mrs J. Pattinson and Dr. Densem were the winners of lucuy seats- At the conclusion the Mayor, Mr E W. Kennedy, thanked the artists, and those present for then patronage On Wednesday night, the W.E.A. Class held the final night of then series of lectures for this year. Mr Worthington, instructor at Canterbury College, was present to ni ‘ rn " duce a new course of play study, which the Class will be taking under his direction during the next few wepks His interesting and instructive address was appreciated by the members. At the end of the course, the class hones to stage the set ol plays undr i££r Worthington’s direction. Supper was served, after-which a short time was spent in .social activities. Competitions were won by Misses D. Hamer, and O’Malley and Mrs A. Airns. On behalf of the members of the class, the leader Mrs S. Braithwaite, made a presentation of a manicure outfit to. Miss Norma Tyson, who is leaving- Runanga shortly to take up a. position in New Plymouth Mis Braithwaite referred to Miss Tvson’s activities in connection with the class, particularly the drama section, and expressed regret, at. her departure, but wished her the very best of luck in her new sphere. M ss Tyson suitably replied The Mayor, Mr. J. Kennedy, presided at a well attended meeting of the Runanga E.P.S. last evening, Mr. J. Martin being appointed Secretary in the Secretary’s absence. The overlapping of the E.P.S. ana the Home Guard was discussed, the committee considering that the position could be defined more clearly by the authorities. It was reported that all the committees were well advanced in their work and wardens had been selected for 18 different sec- ! tions of the town. Mr. J. UnvVin I was appointed Vice-Chairman. Reports were received from various committees.
