GUNNER DROWNED
DUNEDIN COAST DEFENCE FATALITY. P.A. DUNEDIN, July 25. * While walking around a ledge on the cliffs on the seaward side of Taiaroa Head this morning, Gunner Allan George Malaquin, aged 21, a member of the Coastal Defence Unit, slipped and fell into the sea There was a fair sea running although Malaquin clung to seaweed for some time, his companion was unable to reach him. Assistance was summoned, but before a rescue party could arrive at the spot, Malaquin had disappeared. Up to a late hour to-night there ws no sign of his body. The deceased’s parents reside in Christchurch. I
