PETROL SUPPLY

NO RATION CUT YET. WELLINGTON, February 8Mr. E. A. Batt, chairman of the executive of the Automobile Association, Wellington, seen to-day about references by the Minister for Supply- (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) to petrol, when addressing the Master Gracers’ Federation at Auckland, said that the North Island Motor Union had been in communication with Mr. Sullivan for a clarification, and Mr. Sullivan had replied. His letter states that he (Mr. Sullivan) was referring to savings to be achieved in the rationalisation of daily deliveries in various fields of distribution, that is, the commercial user, and not intended to cover the use of petrol by the private i>ser. So far as his knowledge went nothing was contemplated at pres.ent with regard to any further cut in the ration allowed private owners. A postscript, however, adds that he can give no certain assurance that circumstances might not compel reduction in the future of the private car ration.
