BARRYTOWN NOTES

The second Patriotic Concert held by the local committee was presented last Saturday evening, and reflected the greatest of credit on the organiser, Mr James Duffy, of Greymouth. His party provided an excellent, programme which was heartily applauded by the large audience. The inclement weather possibly caused many residents to remain at *iome but those who ventured out in such good numbers were treated to an entertainment of excellent variety and left the artists in no doubt of their appreciation of the items. In detail, the programme consisted of: Song, Mr Duffy, “With My Shillelagh Under My Arm”; songs, Miss J. Holt, “Memories” and “I Remember”; humorous items, Mr Carrigan; songs, Mrs Dumbleton, “Annie Laurie” and “A Perfect Day”; songs, rvir Boote, “Awake” and “Waiata Poi”; violin solo, Miss Willis. “Souvenir”; vocal duets, Messrs Duffy and Airns, “Battle Eve” and “Excelsior”; songs, Miss J. Sweetman, “Because” and ‘‘At Dawning”; songs, Mr Airns, “Sergeant Major on Parade” and “The Floral Dance”; vocal duets, Misses Holt and Sweetman, “The Elfin call” ana “Serenata”; humorous items, Mr Carrigan; pianoforte solos, Mr Patterson; song, Mr Duffy, “Mountains o’ Mourne”. At the conclusion of the programme Mr P. Wafer, on behalf of those present, J-ongratu-lated Mr Duffy and his party on the excellence of the items and expressed thanks to them for their trouble and generosity. The speaker also expressed appreciation of Gibbs’ Motors generosity in conveying the party to Barrytown. free of charge. Mr Duffy returned thanks and trusted that at a later date his company would provide a return entertainment. He also paid a very nice tribute to the children for their attention and splendid behaviour throughout the concert. Supper was then provided and the hall cleared for dancing, which was carried on till an early hour. Fisher’s Orchestra provided their usual spirited music and Mr W. Ryall officiated in the capacity of M.C. As an interlude in the dance programme, Mr Prescott tendered two greatly appreciated songs, “Good-bye” and ‘The Sergeant Major on Parade.” During the dancing also, a competition was decided, Miss P. Moloney being the Winner.
