N.Z. TROOPS IN EGYPT
What is in View ? TRAINING ON INTENSIVE SCALE (Received January 15, 5.5 p.m.) (From the Oiliciai War Correspondent with the N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East) CAIRO, January 14. While many of its numbers continue to play some useful active role s behind the scenes- in the Libyan offensive, the New Zealand Expeditionary Force are embarking, this week, on a period of intensive training on a wider and mors comprehensive scale than has previously been known. There is a .full ~P ro_ gramme of instruction and exercises, designed to teach, new iesson s of warfare, as well as to act as a refresher course.
The Army Service. Corps and transport companies are meanwhile continuing a highly important task in carrying supplies to British IToops in Libya, and New Zealanders are still' helping to maintain signal services at the headquarters ol: the forces in action. In addition, New Zealand .engineers are engaged -in water supply, workshops and similar activities on either side, ol the border, and railway companies are assisting in train running and maintenance over som e hundreds of miles ■of desert.
