SMALLER ENTRIES Pigs Remain Down LAMBS SELL BETTER. lOur Own Corresponu.:-nti CHRISTCHURCH January 15. j With mostly smaller entries, prices, of live stock recovered somewhat on last week’s drop at to-day’s Addington market, which Messrs H. Matson and Co. review as follows: — Fat Lambs: There was a smaller entry, and few butchers' sorts. The market improved by 2s a head. An excellent line of lambs from the West Coast made 26s Id to 31s Id. Fat Sheep: The entry was a much smaller one of 3,000 head. There was a sharp advance in values. The quality was indifferent. There was a small entry of wethers, which met a good demand, and were up 2s a head, 'ewes rising about 2s 6d a head Prime wethers fetched 31s to 38s Id, medium 23s 6d to 30s 6d, and light to 235; prime ewes 23s to 27s 7d, medium 14s 6d to 225, and light to 13s 6d.

Store Pigs: The entry was a large one. Except for large stores, the values were the lowest for some time. There was no interest in weaners. Weaners sold from 4s to 13s, slips 12s to 16s; small stores 18s to 27s 6d; large stores to 40s. Store Sheep: There were about 400 head offered mostly lambs. Values were about 2s 6d to 3s a head better than last week. A line of fat and forward lambs realised to 20s 10d.

Porkers: The entry was on a par with last week. Values were .the same, but in cases an increase was noticeable. Heavy pork sold from 53s 6d to 58s 6d, medium pork 46s 6d to 51s fid, and ’light pork 41s 6d to 44s 6d; Ihe average price per lb. being 6?d to 7d. Baconers: There was a large entry of bacon. The number forward was the largest so far this season. It was a dragging sale throughout. Heavy bacon sold from £3 14s 6d to £4 2s 6d medium bacon £3 9s 6d to £3 13s 6d, and light bacon 59s 6d to £3 8s 6d, the average price per lb. being 6ld to 7d. Fat Cattle: The entry numbered 391 head, the smallest for some months. The quality was good, although there were not many heavy cattle forward. Good beef was up 25s a head, and medium to 10s a' head. Best beef made up to 41s per 100 lbs., and other sorts 32s 6d to 38s per 100 lbs. Prime steers fetched £l5 10s to £l9 12s 6d, medium £9 5s to £l6, light to £9; prime heifers £9 10s to £l4. 17s 6d; medium £7 15s to £9 5s and light to £7 ss; prime cows £7 15s to £ll 12s 6d, medium £6 5s to £7 10s, and light to £7.

Dairy Cattle: There were about 50 head offered. Cows near the drop realised good prices. Otherwise it was a mediocre sale. Good second and third calvers sold to £l5 10s, and good heifers to £lB 10s for exceptional ones. Inferior sold to £7. Vealers: There was slightly a smaller yarding. The quality was better. Large runners sold to £lO 16s, and good £5 16s to £8 Ils; vea'lers £3 3s 6d to £5 3s 6d and calves 58s downwards.
