WESTLAND LAUNDRY LTD.

FILM DISPLAY Westland Laundry Limited showed initiative at a meeting held at Harker’s Tea Rooms last night, when members of the public and intending investors in the company had an opportunity of hearing a full explanation of th e company organisation and of seeing moving .films showing the manufacture of laundry machinery and the actual operation of laundries in Scotland, England, and Australia. Mr W. E. J. Steer, who was in the chair, explained to the meeting that the company was now incorporated, and stated he was pleased to report that in the short space of one week sufficient, shares had been applied for to allow the company jo go to allotment, which it was Hoped would be done before the end of the year. He then introduced Mr W. Debenham, of ■ Anderson’s, Ltd., Christchurch, who has had the experience of visiting many of the largest laundries in England, Scotland, America, and Australia. Mr Debenham showed a series of films covering all phases of laundrywork from the initial stag e of the manufacture of machinery, through every operation of the factory work up to the stage of the delivery of the finished article. The audience asked Mr Debenham a series of questions, both during the showing of the film s and, at the end of the meeting, Mr Debenham explaining thd purposes of all the various parts of the plants and the distinejt advanvantages of the type of plant to be installed by the new company. It was pointed out that the company is insistent on installing the verv latest machinery available. Those present were convinced that th,, opening up of this establishment, locally would nfford an avenue for employment, of youth, and increase th P amount locally expended. The films went to indicate that laundry work which has hitherto been going away from West Coast towns could be kept hero, and that the business would be wel* supported.
