POPE’S CORONATION
First Anniversary CROWDS AT CELEBRATION Received March 13, 1.20 a.m.) VATICAN, CITY, March 12. A huge crowd led by resplendent aristocrats, diplomats and Cardinals, jammed the Basilica of Saint Peters when Pope Pius XII 'celebrated the first anniversay of his coronation as Pope with a ninety-minute Pontificial Mass. Thousands of priests, monks, students and ordinary men and women squatted on the cobblestones outside for hours to get admission to Saint Peter’s. The Pope’s congratulatory telegrams included one from Herr Hitler.
