RECORD HEAT

NO CHANGE IN VICTORIA People Sleep on Beaches [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] Received March 12, 10.55 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 12. The heat wave continues in Victoria with no sign of a change. Melbourne to-day recorded a temperature of 105.5 degrees. Country centres recorded upwards of 110 degrees. The present is the hottest Marco weather ever to be recorded in the State. The heat is becoming more oppressive with the advent of hot north winds.

Last night’s minimum temperature was 65.5 degrees, the glass rising rapidly till 10 a.m., when there were temperatures of 95 degrees. Yesterday set a new water consumption record, there having been 172 million gallons used in the Melbourne Metropolitan area. Fortunately all of the water storages are full, and there is no danger of a shortage. Many people have prepared to spend the night at the beaches to-night.
