SECRET SALARY

At the annual meeting of shareholders, of the £74,000,000 Imperial Chemical Industries combine, held recently, Lord McGowan, chairman of direc- ‘ tors, refused to disclose his salary. “I am alarmed,” said Sir Alfred Cope, “that estimates of Lord McGowan’s salary vary" from £40,000 to £BO,OOO a year.” Lord McGowan: “I can only repeat what I said last year—that it is not the custom to disclose the salaries of wholetime directors.” Imperial Chemical Industries last year made a profit of £7,000,000. Some of it was made in Australia. Mr. Neville Chamberlain has 11,000 shares in 1.C.1. Imperial Chemical Industries has big interests in the German dye-trust.—" Common Cause.”
