Hitler was much impressed by the news value of Queen Mary’s motor accident and he gave Goebbels orders to stage a similar overturn for himself. Goebbels reported that no drivers would volunteer; they all said it was too dangerous. “The cowards,” screamed Hitler, “I’m not afraid,” “It’s not the accident they’re afraid of, Fuehrer,” Goebbels explained, “It’s what the people would do to them when they saw you climbing out safe and sound.”— “Tribune.”
