Professor Haldane’s SelfExperiment Offer
A TARGET FOR BOMBS. Professor J. B. S. Haldane, the i man who risked his life to find out I how the “Thetis” men died, has offerled himself to the Government as a living target for air-bomb experiments. He is prepared to take the biggest risk of his career of selfexperiment in order to discover the limit of .human endurance under the assault of high explosives. His plan is to occupy a blast-proof shelter, and note his own reactions and the behaviour of delicate instruments while bombs are exploded. This daring scientist said: “I fee] that research into the effect of blast on human beings has never been properly carried out. My experiments would give the public confidence in the shelters. Animals, particularly goats, have been useful in this direction, but this experiment would be of far greater value.
