OBITUARY

The death occurred suddenly at Greymouth 'yesterday of Mrs Phyllis Ward, wife of Mr Wilfred Ward, of Arnott’s Lane. Deceased who was 33 years of age, was a native of Nelson Creek, but had lived in Greymouth for over 20 years. She was a daughter of Mrs and the late Mr William Robin, of Tarapuhi Street, fund is survived by her husband, and her mother, also two children, aged 11 years and ten years. The late Mrs Ward also leaves two brothers, Messrs William Robin (Hokitika) and David Robin (Greymouth). Her only sister the late Mrs George Robinson predeceased her about 18 months ago. The funeral will take place to-mor-row afternoon leaving the residence of Mrs W. Robin, Tarapuhi Street, for Karoro Cemetery.

The death occurred at his residence Bright Street, Cobden yesterday morning of Henry Edward Debenham at the age of 84 years. Deceased who had not enjoyed good health for a number of years, was born in London. coming to the Dominion as a child in company with his ' parents. He resided at Hokitika in the early days, and later took up farming at Jackson’s, but for the past fifteen years had resided in Cobden. Deceased is survived by his wife, and three sons, John (Christchurch), Daniel (Whangarei), and Frederick (Cobden), also three daughters, Mrs J. W. Windsor (Whangarei), Mrs J. Houston (Wakefield), and Mrs H. George (Kumara). Two elder sons Henry and Charles, were killed in the Great War. His brother, Frederick, predeceased him four years ago. The interment, which will be private, will take place to-morrow.

The death of Miss Elizabeth Mary Gurney, aged 38 years of Howick, Auckland, who had achieved no mean distinction in Australia, especially as a writer of poetry and short stories, and was a capable horsewoman, occurred in the Auckland hospital yesterday as the result of internal injuries which she received on Wednesday’, when she was kicked bv a horse. Miss Gurney was well known to the New Zealand public for her "Windyridge” series of stories. She was prominently associated with the Pakuranga Hunt Club. The accident, which ultimately brought about her death, happened on Wednesday morning. A short while before she had taken her horse to an adjoining propertv owned by Mr H. C. Meikle. where the animal was to be clipped and she had just patted it. when it suddenly lashed out with one of its hind legs, and gravely injured her internal! V.
