LOur Own Correspondent). To celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter Marjory, Mr. and Mrs. J. Pender entertained a few friends and relatives at their residence on Saturday. The evening was spent happily with competitions and singing. The supper table was beautifully decorateci, the chief feature being a two-tiered birthday cake with the customary gold key on top. All present joined in wishing the young lady many more happy birthdays. Prior to concluding the shift in Wallsend Mine on Friday afternoon a miner Mr W. Coates (Topper) married, residing Taylorville was struck by a runaway truck of coal and sustained painful injuries being severely bruised and having the muscles of his leg torn. He was admitted to Hospital and his condition is favourable.

Hrs. E. Scott, of Auckland, is visiting her sister Mrs. J. Pender, of Taylorville.

Mrs. A. Gutbcrlet, who has been a patient in “Oranui” Private Hospital, has returned to her home in Dobson.

At the annual meeting of St. Saviour’s Church Wallsend. the secretary, Miss Smeaton, reported that, as a result of the efforts of the committee, the church fabric has been completely restored. During the year the refurnishing of the interior had been tastefully carried out, and thanks were due to Mrs. J. Rodgers who undertook the- laying of the carpet and so saved the expense of employing a shop assistant. Mr. Rodgers also erected a new communion rail. Messrs G. Jack, and T. Gutberlet and Mrs. F. Williams were to be thanked for their help during the year. Two shop days and a concert were held during the year for the purpose of raising funds. The organ had been repaired, the cost of which (19s) was defrayed by a donation. One member of the committee, Mrs. J. Thompson, had moved to Greymouth and in appreciation of her services she was tendered a farewell social and presentation. Appreciation was expressed of the enthusiasm with which Mr. E. Williams, the Vicar’s Assistant, had worked for the improvement of the church, especially the interest he had taken in'the young people. The balance sheet, as read by the Treasurer, disclosed a small credit balance for the year. Rev. W. A. Beaumont, who presided at the meeting moved a vote of thanks and appreciation of the work of the out going committee with special reference to the work of Mrs. R. R. Smith (chairman), Miss Smeaton (secretary), and Mrs. Rutherford (treasurer). The Vicar also extended a welcome to Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Mahon. The .following are the committee elected for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mrs. R. R. Smith; Treasurer, Mrs. Rutherford; Secretary, Mrs. Mahon; Mesdames Rodgers, Smithers, Messrs R. R. Smith, A. Mahon, Smithers (3). The Taylorville School Honours List for 1937 is as follows:—Dux girl, Joan Findley; Dux boy, Jack Dando. Most popular Boy and Girl, the two above mentioned.
