CLIMBERS RESCUED

At Arthur’s Pass LPer Press Association]. . CHRISTCHURCH, AUgust 16. A party of seven young men, was lost last night, in the mountains at Arthur’s Pass. 1 Last seen at noon yesterday, on the summit of Phipp’s Peak, the party were thought to be in the bush close to Blimit Peak. The men went to the Pass in a Sunday excursion, and were just missed when the train was due to leave for Christchurch. A search was at once organised, eight members of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club being sent from Christchurch, and arriving at the Pass late at night. This morning, the searchers totalled 25, and an organised search commenced. Later, it was reported that the missing men had been found. The members of the 1 party were F. Gillett, I. Lawrence, R. Murchison, J. Clegg, J. Ollivier, and G. Mandeno, of Christchurch. They set out from the Pass at 5 a.m., intending to make the traverse from Phipps Peak to Mount Temple, and were seen yesterday at noon on the summit of Phipps Peaks. Search parties set out to-day and reported at noon they sighted the missing men on Temple Col. It is. hoped to bring the party into Arthur’s Pass by three o’clock. All are believed to be well,. despite the bitterly cold night.
