OPIUM RAIDS. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May 27. A raid by detectives on a Chinese iaundry on saturdayj. resulted in the seizure of twenty-four tins of opium valued at £5OO found in an attache case. George Fong was charged this morning with dealing in dangerous drugs, and was remanded. CHRISTCHURCH May 27. As a sequel to a police raid, yesterday, fines totalling £132 were impos cd on thirty-two Chinese, charged with •ffenees against the Gaming Act. Young Fong. fruiterer, charge! with being 'the occupier of premises in Madras Street!, and using them as a common gaming house v was fined £5O. Yee Kwong, 65, gardener, was fined £5O for being the owner of the premises and knowingly permitting them to be used as a common gaming hou.-je. Thirty others, charged wkh being on the premises without lawful excuses were fined amounts ranging from £1 to £3. SEXUAL CASES. WANGANUI, May 27. The Supreme Court opened tD-day, Mr Justice Callan presiding. His Honor commented on the large number of sexual which showed an increase in the district. BETTING FINE. WELLINGTON. May 27. In the Criminal Court, Robert Mur« ray. aged 45. a labourer, was found not guilty on the charge of murdering James O’Neill, at Asquith as cabled on March 23rd. Evidence disclosed that O'Neil,!’.-* death arose from injuries inflicted during a drunken brawl. Murray was discharged.
