RELIEF OF DISTRESS

At Wellington new organisation. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 27. The Mayor. Air Hislop, announced to-day an amalgamation of the forces of the Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund and the Smith Family. The new organisation will be known as the Alayor’s Metropolitan Relief Committee. The now Committee comprises, the ATavor, as Chairman: Rev A'. R- Milne, Messrs A. E. Nimmo. G. Tait (’. A. 1.Treadwell, B. Kelly and L. A. Hill. Colonel A. Cowks has been appointed secret ary-mana ger. The main object of the amalgamation is to avoid possible duplication and overlapping, and to create a strong bodv for the purpose of raising necessary funds. Certain of the work carried on bv the Smith Family is to be continued by that organisation, such as a national milk supply for children, and the Travelling Library, but all the general work is to be carried on by the Aletropolitan Association.
