CROP FAILURES
FROSTS IN BRITAIN. FRUIT AND POTATO SHORTAGE. (Received Mav 24, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 24. The “Daily Herald” says that recent frosts have played such havoc with the fruit, and potato crops in Britain that the whole system of tar iffs and quotas may be extensively relaxed The Minister of Agriculture. Mr W. Elliot, is devising plans ‘o encourage shipments of fruit and potatoes fmm abroad in order to make up an . unparalleled home deficiency. The anpln orc.hnrd<s in all parts of the coun'rv have been stricken. Most of the fruit growers are facing enormous losses.
