SECONDARY SCHOOLS
TEACHERS’ CONFERENCES. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 15. The annual meeting of the Association of Heads of registered secondary schools was held yesterday. The resignation from the vice-presidency of Rev. W. Archball of King’s College, Auckland, was received with regret, and a motion passed expressive of appreciation of hi s work for the Association was carried, the motion saying thatl his resignation from the Headmastership of King’s College meant a loss New Zealand could ill afford. The Executive was reconstructed as follows: President, Mr Richards (Christ’s College); Vice-President, Father Dowling (St. Pat’s- Silverstream); Sec-crtary-Treasurer. Mrs Young; Executive, Father Burger. Brother O’Connor, Messrs N. Gibson. J. R. Sutcliffe J. B. Mawson, and Rev. Gordon Mackenzie. A motion was passed urging the appointment of trained photographers as lecturers in the Universities. A remit asking for the repeal of the clause in the Education Act, ex eluding five-year-olds from schools, hvas carried by the Educational Institute, without dissent. One delegate advocated an extension of the leaving age instead of a return to five as the entrance age.
