WAIUTA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) Dr. A. Jenkins, who has been resident medical officer to the Waiuta Miners’ Mediea] Association for !the past six weeks, has resigned. He has left for the North Island. Dr. Berkinshire i s at present filling the vacant position. ( To commemorate the Silver Jubilee ofjthe King and Queen, the Blackwater Mines have decided to donate the sum of £l6O (the equivalent of a day’s pay for each of its employees) tor the completion of The swimming at the mine. This handsome donation is very much appreciated by swimming enthusiasts in the township. A sitting of the Conciliation Council was .held at Reefton on Tuesday, the dispute being between the Inangahua Miners’ Union and the Blackwater Mines, Ltd. The Union representatives 'were Mr Jas. Roberts (Secretary N.Z. Alliance of Labour), Messrs S. P. Williams (President), J. McGregor (Secretary), and V. P. Morel (Inangahua Miners’ Union). The bazaar which was to have been held on Saturday last was postponed on account of the death of Mr N. Olsen. The function will now be held on Monday, May 20th. j Mrs Lindbom, of Cobden, who has been spending a few days here as the guest of her sister, Mr s D. Thompson, ha s returned home. Miss B. McNeil has returned to her home at. Blackball. Mrs B. Dunshea was a visitor to Greymouth for 'the week-end. Mrs J. A. Dwyer, )who has been visiting Greymouth, has returned.

Waiuta residents will be assured, of a plentiful supply of fresh fish from now on. Mr Pat Tighe, a former well-known resident, intends visiting here weekly with fresh fish, which is guaranteed. The first visit will be made on Thursday.

There were no League matches played here on Sunday, neither Waratah juniors nor Ahaura seniors putting in an appearance to fulfill their fixtures. Ahaura could not field a, team owing to injuries among their players. The Soccer Club had a bye, and their fixture this "week-end is at Cobden. The senior and junior League teams held a practice game, the seniors winning by 19 points to 5. During the game, Mr A. Caldwell, of the senior team, had the misfortune to shoulder. Mr J. Leatham capably controlled the game. Waiuta whippet owners will be represented at the Dunollie Club’s meeting on Sunday. Mr T. Moyle’s “Grey Shadow”. Mr N. Christie’s “Red Park”, and Mr C. Pratt’s “Cavalcade” have been nominated. The three are in good fettle, and their owners are confident of success. Charley Pratt, who has recently joined the ranks of whippeU enthusiasts, is very sanguine of success. The best wishes of all local sports will go with the team. The funeral of the late Mr Neil Olsen, the victim of last week’s fatal accident at: the Prohibition Shaft, took place on Saturday, the cortege moving 'from his late residence on the Prohibition Road, en route to the Suburban Cemetery, Reefton. Practically the whole of the staff and" employees of the Blackwater Mine s followed the remains. Sixteen cars were required to convey the followers, while many walked some distance down the Blackwater Road. On arrival at the bridge in Reefton, the funeral was met by the members of the Reefton Volunteer Fire Brigade in full dress uniform, under Captain Coxall. The laffc Mr Olsen was a former •member of the Reefton Brigade. The services at the graveside were conby the Rev. W. Bell. Many beauGful floral tributes were received, testifying to the high esteem in which deceased was held. The late Mr Olsen was one of the oldest members of the Tnangahua Miners’ Union, having joined that body in 1898. Mr s R. J. Anisy. who has been in Reefton for some weeks, has returned home. Iler daughter, Lily, iwho has been seriously ill in the Reef ton Hospital for some weeks, is now making a good recovery. Mr Dick Ronehi. who sustained a
