RUNANGA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) At the annual banquet of the Runanga. Bowling Club, Air. T. Bowes, presided over a large attendance of members and visitors and an enjoyable time was spent. The following toasts were honoured: “Our Noble Selves” “Kindred Sports”, which was replied to by Alessrs R. Glover (quoits), F. White (soccer), R-. Scott (cricket), M. Garvey (League). AV. Brown (Whippet (Racing), D. Syme (Tennis), J. Armstrong, Jnr. (Billiards), J. Price (Croquet); “Officials of the Club” proposed by Air. J. Armstrong, Sour., and responded to by Alessrs T. Bowes, D. Barnes, AV. Warburton, Alossop, Syme and Taylor, “The Ladies” “The Alusician” (Air. D. Kendrick). The President referred to the fine sporting spirit and good fellowship of the members of the Club and stated that the standard of play was indeed very good. He advised young members to keep on with the game. Replying on behalf of the visitors. Air J. O’Donnell thanked the chib for its kind invitation to be present. A presentation of a fountain pen and pencil was made to Mr. Joe Williams, who is leaving the district. A presentation was also made to Air. J. Armstrong, Senr., of a shaving outfit, in view of his forthcoming holiday trip to Australia. lie was also asked to accept a cake stand on behalf of Mrs. Armstrong. The President said that Mr. Armstrong had been a good member and a fine officer of the club. On behalf of members he extended the best wishes of the club to Air. and Airs. Armstrong for their future health and hapuiness. Community singing was indulged in whilst items were rendered by the following: Alessrs C. AVilliams, Syme and Forsyth (accordeon and violin duet); J. Armstrong, Senr., D. Barnes, F. J. Easther, J. Crowe, AV. Wright. The president presented all trophies' won during the 1934-35 season, all winners responding in an excellent style. The trophy winners were: Afaclntosh badges: Spedding, Braithwaite, Alossop, Armstrong, Senr., Rae Buttons; Scott and F. G. Pope.

A very successful evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” «
