MINE TRAGEDY
AT BLACKWATER. (Our Own Correspondent.') A. fatal accident occurred at Wainta yesterday about 11 a.m., which resulted in the death of Mr Neil Olsen, a well-known resident of the township. Deceased, in company with other men, was engaged in the construction of the poppet-heads at the Prohibition Shaft, when Olsen fell a distance of about twenty feet, and was deeply unconscious when picked up. Dr. Jenkins was quickly on the scene, and while deceased was being prepared to be removed to the Reefton Hosp’taJ. passed away. The late Mr O!.?ea was a married man. with three cliildrfjj, and was 52 years of age, and a ndtive of the West Coast. He had worked on the Roof ton field for a number of years, and was considered an expert workman m the construction of heavy timber. He was very popular with his workmates. An inquest will be held, probably at Reefton. To his widow and family is ektended the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends, in the tragic bereavement that has overtaken them.
