REEFTON WATER SUPPLY. (To the Editor.'* Sir, —The water supply in Reef ton has been causing a great deal of concern to people living here. After a dry spell of two weeks, there is a shortage of water. In the summer it is worse, as more water is wanted, and each summer all our creeks are showing lessxwater. One writer has made a suggestion for a permanent supply of water. Let us hope our Council will act promptly. We have a swimming pool, and good gardens, and at night our domestic supply is cut off. The writer mentioned estimates that £5OO will cover 'the cost of erecting an electric pump at Black’s Point to pump the river water into the reservoir pipes. I agree with this, but would suggest, instead of Black’s Point, to sink on the river bank at. the head of the town, and get at filtered water. Even if a scheme cost £5OOO for a permanent source, it would be a cheap supply. Reefton deserves and must have a permanent supply. Just imagine holiday time and our hotels filled with guests, and not enough water for our flush-downs! Reefton, we hope, will be a growing town, and it has not enough water for the present population. The first essential is a good supply to keep the town sanitary.—l am, etc., HYGIENE.
