RUNANGA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) A very enjoyable evening was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs . Weight to celebrate the anniversary of their silver wedding. A large number of friends were present to honour the occasion. The hostess carried out her' duties in a very capable manner, providing all that was necessary to satisfy the most fastidious. The popular couple were the recipients of many useful presents. A “ surprise [ party,’’ comprising the members of the Women’s Co-operative Guild, added to the large assemblage, the members of which rendered various items. Mrs P. Iligson, on behalf of the Guild ladies, congratulated Mr and Mrs Wrighit on attaining their silvei wedding, and trusted that they woiibl be spared to celebrate their golden nodding. Mas Wright was eulogised for her services to the community, and particularly in fostering the Cooperative Guild. Mr D. Barnes and Mr Mossop also paid a tribute to th-* host and hostess and hoped they would all meet again in twenty-five years hence. Vanious items were rendered by Mesdames Shultz, Denzic, McPhee and by Messrs Finn .Green, Marshall. Iligson, Lemon, Tallent ire. Wright, Haybitt’e and Barnes. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” ieirninated a very enjoyable evening. Miss G- Higson, of Runanga. has boon a vory successful vocalist at the competitions, having yesterday secured four first prizes, and been highly complimented by the judge. Mr Y. Poutherford, who has been a patient at the Grey Hospital for the past few weeks, has returned home much improved in health. Mrs J. Forres>t, who has been on a brief visit to Chrisfc.hureh, has returned home. Mrs T. O’Loughlin has returned from Christchurch. accompanied h Mr Ray Hyndman. The. local W.E.A. are to be congratulated on their splendid achievement in presenting two one-act p ays in the Presbyterian Social Hall recently. The. first payl, “Bobbv Settles Down,’’ and the second. “Snowed Up With a Duchess,” were acted Uitn great credit by the lady members o' the Association. Mrs Braithwaite would do credit to more difficult plays and under her; tuition, the company could expect a large audience if at any time they cared to present Iheir talent.
