That safe breaking with gelignite may bo an operation of some danger was proved by the experience of three young men who pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court to-day to a series of charges of breaking entering and theft. The most, serious charge was that of blowing open a safe in the office of W. W. Kcighly «md Co. .Detective Sergeant O'Brien, for the prosecution, said that by ail accounts om* of fhe accused was lucky to be alive, as he stayed in the room when the charge was fired, aud a too heavy charge was used, slated the Detective. In a statement made by one of (he men, it was stated that when lhe charge was about to be fired, on" man, left t h<> building and the other stayed in t lie room. When the safe had blown up the do\>r flew across the room, over the man’s head. The two accused were Ronald Patrick Baxter aged 21. and William Lewis I’help aged IS. Both were described as labourers. They were committed for sentence. The other accused was a juvenile, aged 17.
