RUNANGA NOTES

(Own Correspondent.) Mrs *L Comiel, senr., who has been resident at. Rnnanga for the past nine years, left by the’ Remuera from Auckland on Saturday, en route to Lew Junction, Lanariekshiro, Scotland, where she will in future reside. Mrs Counel was farewelled by a large circle of friends, at the same time being presented with a large number of usefid presents, several of which will be very useful on the voyage Home. That she was highly respected was evidenced by the lady residents that congregated at the station platform to wish her bon voyage.

The usual fortnightly dances to aid the Band to erect a bandroom arc meeting with fair success, it being hoped to make a start with the erection of the hall in the near future. The Celtic ('lub’s euchre and’ dance was held in the Library on Saturday night, when a large number were present. Miss May Doherty won the first prize al the euchre, Mr Hillan being second. Owing to an increased demand for coal from the co-operative mines, several men have been engaged, thus reducing the total number of unemployThe draining of the Domain is now going on apace by the relief workers, the new system having been inaugurated by the Borough Foreman. It is anticipated that a sum in the vicinity of £135 will be handed over to the Hospital Board in aid of the children’s ward, by Ruhanga’s efforts. Mr Jack Doyle, who has recently returned from a. visit to Russia, will deliver an address in the Miners’ Hall at an early date, when it is expected that a large number will be present ‘Io receive first-hand informat ion on the doings of Soviet Russia. Mrs (L Long has been removed l‘» the Gr<*y River Hospital, her condition showing no improvement. Mr T. Williams is making good progress towards r(‘C<»v<*ry. Mr .1. Reynolds, who has been a patient at the drey Hospital for a considerable time, is progressing favourably.
