RELIEF PROMISED. (Aus. & N.Z, Cable Assn.) I CANBERRA, June !>. I A definite promise of taxation relief in this year’s Budget was given by Sir G. Pearec, in the Senate. He said that the whole field of taxation, would be reviewed in the .forthcoming Budget, to see in what manner the greatest relief can be given. LOAN COUNCIL DECISIONS. MELBOURNE, June 9. A definite promise that there would be a reduction in the unemployment relief tax at an early date was made by tho Premier of Neyv South Wales (Mr Stevens) at the Iman Council meeting. He would not, however, indicate the probable extent of the reduction or the probable date of the commencement. The Primo Minister, Mr Lyons, explained to the Premiers’ Conference the Federal Government’s scheme for the proposed constitutional convention, which would consist of eighteen State representatives. The convention is to make recommendations to the Commonwealth Government.
Marked hostility to tho plan was displayed by several Premiers. The proposal for the suspension of sinking fund payments for one year was rejected. The Loan Council determined to aggregate the deficits for 1933-34 to the amount of nine million pounds.
