REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) BEEFTON, April 28. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Mr Meldruin, S.M., delivered a written judgment in the case of W. Morris v. The Consolidated Gold Fields of New Zealand, a claim for £1250 for the removal of sands, machinery etc. The judgment was for the defendant com nanv on all counts, with costs totalling £125. Mr C. F. Snook of Christchurch, who is on holiday, left this morning on a visit to the Alexander Mine, in which Company he is a shareholder. Messrs C. J. Strongman and J. Hughes, Coal Mine Inspectors, were visitors to Reef ton to-day. Mr H. Rattray, the well-known dentist of Greymouth, was in Reef ton today on business connected with his profession The Reef ton Croquet Club will close their season on Saturday afternoon, at 2 o ’clock, and extend an invitation to the public to be present. The Club, have had a very sucessful year, and their green has played better than in any previous season, with a corresponding improvement in play. The clos ing should be a successful function. A meeting of the Reefton Jockey Club Committee was held last evening. The holding of a one day race meeting in June was discussed at con siderablc length. It was decided to apply for Saturday, June 4, as the date, the programme to include seven races, five galloping and two trotting events, with the /total stake money of £350. The application will be made on the understanding that it the Greymouth Jockey Club have to postpone their meeting, the local meet ing will be held at a later date. The accounts in connection with the recent meeting showed a small profit, and were received and adopted. It was decided that the Ground Committee meet on the racecourse on May 1, to look into the question of the removal of filling by the Reefton Trotting Club. Mr George R. Wells was elect ed a life member of the Club. The Inangahua A. and P. Association were granted the use of the grounds on the 13 and 14 of May, for the sheep-dog trials, at a charge of £2 2s. It was resolved that the Club apply lor fho following dates for the season, 1933: Mid-summer meeting. Saturday and Monday, 7 and 9 January, Autumn meeting, Wednesday, April 26. The following handicaps have been declared for the cycle road race oi 22 miles, from Inangahua Junction to Reefton, to be held on May 1, under the auspices of the Reefton Cycling Club;—n. Turtill, J.
