PRESS ASSOCIATION

PRESENTATION TO CHAIRMAN. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, February 16. The conference held in Auckland of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association and United Press Association and the New Zealand section of the Empire Press Union concluded to-day. At a full gathering at which the delegates were the guests *of Mr H. Horton, of Auckland, a presentation was made to Mr C. W. Earle, of Wellington, in recognition of his eleven years’ honorary and valuable work as President of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association. The presentation took the form of a silver salver and cheque in order that he might add to it other pieces of plate in accordance with the taste of Mrs Earle and himself. Tributes to Mr Earle were paid by Messrs H. Horton, A. M. Burns, W. C. Weston, and A. McNicol. Mr Earle said there was no justification for the gift, except their own generous hearts. The Chairman’s motion for adoption of the report and balance sheet of the Press Association was seconded by Mr T. C. List (New Plymouth), who said the directors had served the interests of the whole of the papers in New Zealand. The motion was carried. Sir Cecil Leys and Mr H. Horton were re-elected members of the Board as representatives of the metropolitan papers. Messrs J. Coombe and R. H. Billens (Palmerston North) were appointed to the Board as representatives of the provincial press. Next annual meeting of the Association will be held at Rotorua. Sir Cecil Leys was elected Chairman of Directors for a year.
