VISIT TO AUSTRALIA Peter B. Kyne and Douglas Fairbanks CAus. & N.Z. Cable Assn). (Received February 18 at 7.40 p.mA NEW YORK, February 17. Mr Peter B. Kyne, the well-known American author, and Mr Douglas Fairbanks, film actor, may in the near future visit Australia. The Australian Travel Association representative, Mr O’Connor, of San Francisco, states that Mr Fairbanks, who sailed by the steamer “Makura” to-day for Tahiti, whence he will proceed on a yacht to make a travelogue of the South Seas, Fiji, New Guinea etc., told him that if time permits he will include Australia in his itinerary. He must return to Los Angeles in time for the Olympic Games.
Mr Peter B. Kyne has been asked to join a so-called Young America Group, which is scheduled to leave Frisco by the Matson liner Monterey on March 6th. Mr Kyne has also received a cablegram from the Australian Prime Minister. Mr Lyons, urging him to come to Australia. The writer stated that he would go to Australia, if he possibly could, and that, upon his return, he would do his bit to give that interesting country the sort of forceful, kindly publicity which it so eminently merited. Mr Kyne expressed a doubt as to his ability to leave by March 6th. but he added that he would move heaven and earth to get there in time for the Melbourne Cup.
