Sir Leslie Wilson, interviewed, said: “I hope to be able to show gratitude for the appointment by serving Queensland, as well as associating as closely with the public movements as a constitutional Governor possibly can. I first visited Queensland as a guest of Lord Chelmsford, who was then Governor. I afterwards spent a holiday on the cattle stations near Bowen. I know the coastal countrywell, and have happy recollections of duck shooting there. I look forward to renewing the Australian acquaintances I formed long ago at the Boer War, and renewed at Gallipoli and France.”
