The programme for the sports to be held at Victoria Park on Friday, 28ft inst, in connection with the Rugby League campaign to raise funds for .1 new sports ground. was last evening approved by the Sports Committee. It includes a Sheffield footrace (£8 prize money), League teams’ 880 yards relay race (four gold medals).. three cycling events (prizes totalling £11), a tug o’-war (six men a side, 66 stone limit, prizes £8), two motor cycle races (£10), a baby show, greasy pig hunt, ugly man competition, and juvenile events., together with a host of new and attractive side shows. Today the headquarters of the campaign will be opened in the premises in Mac kay Street lately occupied by Mess’s P. Beck and Coy. There is a wid? range of home-made goods. Vegetables and novelties will be offered for sale. The art union prizes, some very beau tiful pictures, will be on view, and this item should prove a popular feature of the carnival, as the prizes all portray Coast scenes.
