MILLERTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) Sports. I Last Sunday a fancy <l rt , ss hoekey ■ mateh was played on the Bee between J Ranger ladies versus gents, which the I former won by two goals to one. Some good play was witnessed on both sides by a large crowd of onlookers. The I fancy dresses were a picture well worth ; seeing. I The public are being well catered for this week end in both football codes. | The boys in blue will try themselves out against Westport on Sunday. This is the Wanderers’ first game, and ’ judging by the team, 'Westport will I have to put the best foot forward. The ‘Wanderers team are: Chippendale I Davison. Dodds, Rennie, Steel, Longstaff, Blyth, Johnson, Taylor, MuiGrove, Davison. Emergencies, T. Gra-

ham, S. Burt. | Rangers will try out Rivals, win- | ners of the Third Banner last year. I The Hill hoys are putting in a lot of practice. ‘With young Ncpia, full hack, Svenson, threequarter, and Popo, the game will be a hard proposition. Thistle travelled to Denniston last Sunday and suffered defeat at the hands of the Hillites by two goals to nil. The Library. Just a. word or two to the members of the library. The committee are catering well, with billiard, snooker, and card tournaments, and the majority of members can play one of the said games, but out of 200 members, only about 4.0 all told enter for the tournaments. Then they turn round and ask why the library cannot give a trophy on top of the entrance fees. Talking to one of the committee, he said that they could not see their way clear to give prizes •when the caretaker is not taking wages on the two tables, and the place is still in debt to the Westport Coal Company, to the extent of about £3OO. Now can it he done? That is the question. The bookshelves are wanting, and another cry starts here. The Secretary informs me that a general meeting is to be called to discuss the ways and means to put the library on a. strong footing. Tt is the only place we ha v ? on the TTill for these kinds of games. Tf this meeting is well attended, and some weight put behind it, T think the W.C.C. will "come a little.’’

The Ranger Hockey Chib has had the monopoly of card tournaments for the past year, and, judging by the nightly attendance, the Club should be in a strong financial portion. There are other clubs who want alterations, such as the Tennis Chib, Boxing Association, and the football clubs. T would like the Hockey Club to give some of them a chance, or let them work in conjunction with each other. You do not want a new stick for every match! They should last for years. Now is the time for all the members of the Union to get a book of the agreements, and study the position he is in, so when the next agreement between, the two parties comes off, he will know how the clause should read. Just ask the Secretary for one.
