RAILWAY MERGER
PROPOSED IN CANADA. OTTAWA. April 22. ‘‘The merger of the Canadian National Railway ami Canadian Pacific Railway would result in an enormous saving, sufficient to provn.e net earnings to meet the fixed charges of both railwavs.” Sir Henry Thornton. President of the National Railways, informed a Parliamentary Committee tc-day. The suggestion that the dcficri of the national railways was due to State ownership., was nonsense. It was due to conditions which, existed pre viously. and which had been forced upon the management.
