The middle classes hold up their hands in horror, and the Socialists smugly declare that military success is vi hi eless without political momentum. Only the Nationalists see anything to be gained from civil war, and are quietly preparing to utilise force when the time is ripe. In addition to Bavaria, where preparations proceed openly, training goes on elsewhere especially in Mecklenberg, Pomerania and other estates of the Junkers. Some of the best military brains in Germany control the movement. The pivot of the district lies in the Spessart Forest in the North-west corner of Bavaria, whence the important industrial region of Northern Bavaria is assailable. The Monarchists wish, firstly, to make sure of Bavaria. The virtual cessation of the inter-Allied Commsision’s activities enable the Monarchists to proceed undisturbed, hence the Communists are beating the big drum, urging the workers to rally round the Communist standard. They are organising monster parades nil over the country.
