RUGBY UNION.

ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT. The annual smoke concert of the West Coast Rugby Union was held last •evening in the Druids’ Hall, there being present a good attendance, over which Captain Cox presided, with Air J. D'. Lynch (Afayor) in the vice-chair. A lengthy toast list was honoured, and many musical items were rendered. The toast list was as follows:— “The King,” (the Chairman); “New Zealand Rugby Union,” proposed by the Chairman, responded Io by Alessrs J. F. Wilson and ,T. Heffernan; “The Citizen’s Committee (Air E. Perkins) responded to by Air J. Tennent; “West Coast Rugby Union” (Mr W. T’arfftt) responded to by Alessrs Cox, | Wilson and .Tones; “Kindred Sports” (Mr J. F. Wilson) responded to by Alessrs Alclntosh (cricket), O’Neill (boxing), Steel (running), p. Doogan (tennis), Reid (trotting), and Alullins (Marist Old Boys, Christchurch); “Sub-Unions” (Air A. Dunford) responded to by Alessrs Wilson (luangahua), Ale Gregor (Westland) and Heaphy (Lake Brunner); “The Band” (Air J. Jarden) responded to by Air A\. Hopkinson (Alunicipal Band); “The Ladies.” (Air AlcGregor) responded to by Alessrs W. Lindsay, Reynolds and Clark; “The Chairman,” (Air Ale Gregor), responded to by Captain Cox; “The Press” (Air .Tones) responded to by Alessrs Heller nan (“Argus”) and Stanley (“Star”) During the evening a wire was read from Alessrs Newman Brothers, stating they intended to present a shield for competition among the Buller and West Coast schools. The presentation of the cups also took place. They were as follows: — Irvine (’up (senior) io Star Club (accepted by Air T. Alclntosh); Rundle Cup, West Coast (Air Alclntosh); “Argus” Cup (junior) to ATarist Juniors (Air I‘. Doogan); Nissen Shield (fourth grade) to United (Air Winchester): Heffernan Shield (fifth grade) to Star (Alaster E. Brown): Trotting Club Scven-a-Side Shield (Senior) to United (Air Walton); Air Ives’s Shield (junior) to United (Air Rothwell). Songs were rendered during the evening by Alessrs N. Jones ...id J. Carruthers, and a recitation by Air Oscar Egden. Community singing was then indulged in.
