TEACHERS’ WAGE-CUT.
REDUCTIONS OUTLINED. NEW BUILDING SCHEME. WELLINGTON, July 17. The Education Department has issued a circular to Education Boards outlining the deductions to bo made in teachers’ salaries as follow: — Training College students, pupil teachers and probationers £2 deduction; male principals of secondary and technical schools receiving £550 a year and over, £10; receiving less than that amount and female principals, £5; all other secondary school teachers, £5; all other education employees receiving £1.90 and under, £5; up to £5BO a year, £lO. These deductions only apply to teachers employed for 20 hours weekly. The department has also issued a cir cular to the Education Boards outlining the proposals for new buildings. If the boards raise half the money by sub scription for new works approved by the department, the latter will contribute half the cost. If the boards borrow the money by loan at 5i per cent., the department will contribute, an equal amount.
