GREY WAR MEMORIAL.

R..S.A. PROPOSAL ADOPTED. AIONTH’S CAAIPAIGN TO RAISE FUNDS. Last evening at the Borough Council Chambers a meeting was held of the Greymouth War Memorial Committee, to consider the proposal of the Greymouth R.S.A. to take up the work of raising tho necessary money for bringing the project lo a successful completion. There were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. D. Lynch), Captain Colclough, Alessrs McKane, Ashton, and Gillies. The Mayor stated that the. Committee had been called together in order to consider a scheme put forward by the R.S.A, whercunder the Association wore prepared to take over the work of raising the amount needed to complete the project. He recalled that in July last there had been a largely attended public meeting, and a j committee was formed, and the Executive had since then held six meetings, and had raised only £l5O Ils 9d. It was evident that, on account of various public appeals for other objects, the interest of the public in the memorial movement had flagged, and he alluded specially to the effect of the appeal for the Rewa maternity Home and others. It was desirable to speedily bring the project to a successful issue, and he was pleased to state that the R.S.-V had now come forward to offer their assistance. A deputation from the R.S.A.: I Messrs Armstrong and Ryan (secretary) was then, received, and Mr Armstrong set forth an outline of the scheme proposed by his organisation. They had come, simply to offer the Committee, their suggestion, and not to reprove tho Committee. The R.S.A. wished to undertake a personal canvass, such as that made the connection with the recent appeal in aid of tho blind, and they had every confidence that in this manner tlroy could bring the project to a successful issue in one month’s time. Air Ryan supported his colleague’s remarks. After hearing the d-eputation, the Committee- favourably considered their | proposition and Air .\shton moved and | ('apt. Colclough seconded that the Com- .' mil tee acc-ept tho suggestion of tho R.S.A. with its best thanks, and that ! the Committee authorise the R.S.A. to i proceed with their projected cam- ' paign. The motion was carried unanimously, and the members of the Committee assured the delegates of their best assistance in the canvass to be made. This concluded the business. R.S.A. COMMITTEE’S PLANS.
