AN EXTRADITION CASE.

The man Robert Kurtz, recently ar rested on an extradition warrant, on th< charge of laroeny of L 5 in Melbourne, was brought .before^ the Police Court today. It seemed, however, that defend ant received the Lsas a wager. on th( Flemington racecourse on the Melbourm Cup day, and: Mr ; Cooper, who appearec on his behalf, maintained that the case was an attempt to use the law to enforci payment under a; contract jwhiqV was no legal and could not.be enforced, and tha therefore it would be unjust and oppress ive to return : defendant to Victoria upon a case of that kind. Judgment was re served.
